Scouting Report
Age, concussions and wear and tear took a toll on Staal's game, though his knowledge and experience were always invaluable to any squad. Was strong enough to win puck battles in his own zone and kept opposing forwards from setting up shop in front of the net. His limited offensive skills were always present, but he was an ideal partner for a more offensive blueliner. A quiet leader, he was as low-maintenance as a defenseman could be at the NHL level.
Long Range Potential: Shutdown defenseman and leader.
